ASPARTAME

What is aspartame?

Aspartame is a low-calorie artificial sweetener made from two amino acids that are normally found in protein, L-aspartic acid and L-phenyalanine. The combination of these two amino acids delivers a sweetness that is 200 times greater than sugar. Due to its sweetness potential, only a small amount of aspartame is required to sweeten a product as opposed to natural sugars, such as fructose, which may require several grams to do the same.

Following is a list of examples of the amount of aspartame used "per serving" in consumer products as well as some CHAMPION NUTRITION products.

Product Serving size Aspartame content

Diet soda 12 ounces 180 mg

Metabolol-Endurance 14 ounces 120 mg

Gelatin dessert 4 ounces 95 mg

Hot chocolate 6 ounces 50 mg

Pro-Score 100 6 ounces 28 mg

Pudding dessert 4 ounces 25 mg

Why do some of your products use aspartame?

Primarily because we want to deliver substantial amounts of active ingredients in our products. Since aspartame is 200 times sweeter than sugar, it allows us to sweeten a product using amounts much less than 1% of the product formula, whereas if we were to sweeten with simple sugars we would be forced to sacrifice up 50% of the product formula.

What is phenylketonuria?

It is a condition by which the individual, called a phenylketonuric, cannot adequately metabolize the amino acid phenylalanine. Therefore, they need to be aware of anything that may contain phenylalanine in order to control their intake. Therefore, any product sweetened with aspartame has to display the statement.

Do you make any "aspartame-free" products?

Yes, we have the following: Metabolol II, Pure Whey Protein Stack, Revenge PRO, Revenge Sport and Super Heavyweight Gainer. We also make Pro-Score 100 natural, which contains no artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors or additives.

CAFFEINE

What is guarana?

Guarana (paullinia cupana) is the name of a plant native to Brazil. The seed of this plant contains the alkaloid guarananine which yields effects similar to caffeine; Therefore, products containing guarana seed extract, such as Met-Max, are said to have caffeine activity. Guarana is so popular in Brazil that it is used as a stimulant to make a popular carbonated beverage called Zoom¯. A similar scenario with the use of caffeine in Coke.

How much caffeine is in a cup of coffee? A Coke?

A cup of coffee (5 ounces) contains around 100 mg per cup and a 12 oz. can of Coke contains 45 mg.

How much caffeine is in Revenge?

The equivalent of 30 mg of caffeine

How much caffeine is in Met-Max?

The equivalent of 1/4 cup of coffee, or 25 mg of caffeeine.

CREATINE

What is the difference between Power Creatine and Creatine Xtreme?

Power Creatine is pure creatine monohydrate, Creatine Xtreme, on the other hand, is creatine monohydrate combined with glucose, maltodextrins, L-glutamine, taurine, Citrimax, vanadyl and Bioperine. The purpose of Creatine Xtreme is to deliver creatine into muscle at a faster rate by utilizing the bodys release of insulin as a creatine transport accelerator.

Where does creatine come from?

Normally creatine is a component found abundantly in red meat. But the creatine used in Power Creatine and other Champion Nutrition products comes from a chemical reaction which involves sarcosine. Therefore, the creatine used in Champion Nutrtition products is not animal derived.

How does creatine work?

Once creatine is absorbed into the muscle cell, it gets converted to creatine phosphate by an enzyme called creatine kinase. The process involves the addition of a high-energy phosphate group.

To power muscle contraction the body uses ATP (adenosine triphosphate), a molecule with three high-energy phosphate bonds. When muscle contracts ATP loses a phosphate bond and it gets converted to ADP (adenosine diphosphate). When this happens, creatine phosphate donates its phosphate group to ADP, and with the help of another enzyme converts ADP back to ATP. This process of speeding up ATP regeneration is called the creatine shuttle.

PROTEIN

What is the difference between Pure Whey Protein Stack and ProScore 100?

Both products are whey proteins but are very different. Pure Whey Protein Stack is straight instantized whey protein designed to inexpensively and conveniently boost your dietary protein intake. It does not have any added amino acids and it is not hydrolyzed. Pro-Score 100, on the other hand, is an enzymatically hydrolyzed whey protein which does not contain any limiting essential amino acids, a property that gives it a higher biological value as well as an increased nitrogen retention value. In addition, Pro-Score 100 is hypoallergenic since it contains hydrolyzed whey proteins and is lactose-free.

What is a "hydrolyzed whey protein"?

A hydrolyzed whey protein is a whey protein that has been broken down into smaller fragments called peptides. These peptides contain small groups of amino acids ususally called di-, tri or oligopeptides. When a whey protein, such as Pro-Score 100, has been hydrolyzed into whey peptides it makes it easier to digest and absorb into the body. Therefore, less usable amino nitrogen is wasted and more nitrogen is retained to build new tissue.

VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT CONFUSE a "hydrolyzed protein" with a "hydrolyzed whey protein". A hydrolyzed protein is a general term and could be anything from collagen to whey protein. If a label reads hydrolyzed protein, it could very well be hydrolyzed collagen, an inferior source of protein. Why? because it is in fact an incomplete protein lacking in the Essential Amino Acids. On the other hand, a hydrolyzed whey protein is the richest and most efficient source of the 9 essential amino acids.

What is so "special" about hydrolyzed whey proteins?

Whey proteins used in dietary supplements come from cows - They are dairy proteins, and as such are not digested the same as human milk. They are harder to digest than other forms of protein such as beef or egg protein. By hydrolyzing a whey protein you can make the protein easier to digest. Why? Because hydrolysis changes how the protein presents itself to your gut. Basically its just a bunch of peptides loaded with valuable amino-nitrogen that are easily absorbed to make new tissue.

By consuming a product which contains hydrolyzed whey proteins, you are giving your body the most efficient source of amino-nitrogen next to hooking up an IV and infusing free-form amino acids.

What Champion Nutrition products contain hydrolyzed whey proteins?

Pro-Score 100, Met-Max and Metabolol-Endurance.

GLUTENS

What are glutens?

Glutens are vegetable proteins found in barley, rye, wheat and oats.

What is gluten intolerance?

The inability to consume products which contain barley, rye, wheat, oats or its derivatives. Individuals with gluten intolerance¯ are said to have celiac disease¯. In gluten intolerant individuals, the gliadin fraction found in glutens acts as a toxic substance to the intestinal wall causing intestinal malabsorption. Thus, nutrient trasport is hindered and malnutrition and catabolism follow if glutens are not removed from the diet.

Do you have any gluten-free products?

Yes, Metabolol II Plain, Revenge, Revenge Sport and Pro-Score 100 natural flavor. Since we manufacture the majority of our products "on site" and are in full control of said formulas, we can assure our customers that we ARE NOT adding any gluten containing ingredients to our products.

GLYCEMIC INDEX

What is glycemic index¯?

Glycemic index is a term used to define the effect that food has on the individuals blood glucose and insulin response. It is a measure which determines how fast and how high blood glucose levels get after food consumption, and how quickly the body responds by releasing insulin and normalizes those glucose levels .

Do you have products that are low glycemic?

Yes. The majority of our products are designed to be low glycemic, with the exception of Creatine Xtreme.

EXPIRATION DATE

How do you read the date of manufacture on your products?

Each product is stamped with the product lot # and a modified version of the Julian Date. This number is located on either the underside of the container or along the side.

Example: 96626 4022

96626 = Product batch number

4022 = Julian date where 4 is the year and 022 is 22nd day of that year.
